360 Installation Guide If You Are Technically Challenged
As most of the population can attest, hooking
up those extra electronic play toys to your television set
can be nerve-wracking. Just look behind your entertainment
center that houses all your technological goodies. There are
a lot of different cords back there! So it is no wonder when
you purchase your Xbox 360 that you might be just a tad overwhelmed
when it comes to installing it. If you are a bit technically
challenged, you can probably use a little help.
First of all, when you bring your Xbox 360 home, you want
to make sure that its new spot in your entertainment lineup
will be fairly free of dust and dirt. Good ventilation is also
a must. Because the Xbox 360 is prone to overheating, you want
to do everything you can to ensure that it doesn’t happen to
you. Second, when you open up the packaging for your Xbox 360,
compare the parts list in the directions to what you have.
You want to make sure that you have all the parts before going
any further.
You should have an A/V cable that connects from your Xbox
360 to your television set. If you have a non-HDTV set, it
will be the yellow cable, which, is your video feed, plus the
red and white cables for your audio. However, if you have a
newer television model, which has HDTV, you will have some
video cords colored red, blue and green that can be used along
with the red and white audio ones. The great thing about the
newer television sets made within the last few years is that
the ports on the back of the TV are color coded and should
match the cords that you have for the Xbox 360.
If you have an HDTV and want to make use of your Xbox 360
in different, higher resolutions, you have to move a little
switch for your A/V cable. The end of that cable connects to
the Xbox 360. If you do not have HDTV, you can just skip this
particular step.
Once the hard part of matching the audio and video cables
is over, you have the power supply to install. You will notice
that the power supply looks like a huge brick with ventilation
areas on it. One end will insert into your Xbox 360 and the
other end will plug into a regular wall outlet. Be sure that
you place this power supply in an open area with good ventilation.
Setting it on the carpet is not an optimal scenario.
Now, you have everything hooked up, it is time to turn your
Xbox 360 on! The big button on the front of the gaming console
is your power button. Be sure that if you have the Xbox controller,
which hooks up with wires that you plug it into the USB port
which is located behind a little door. With the wireless controller
(and more optimal) option, hold the silver “x” button until
the Xbox 360 power button lights up. Once it kicks on, you
will then have to follow the prompts for the set-up process.
Part of this process will include setting up a player profile
and even signing up for Xbox Live if you have broadband access
at home.
Of course, if you do have broadband internet access at home
and plan to purchase a subscription for Xbox Live which allows
you to expand to online gaming, you will need a wireless network
adaptor for your gaming console. From there, you can hook into
your home’s broadband network and play online with other people
all over the world.
The Xbox 360 opens up a whole new world to gamers, especially
those just starting out. If you can remember that most of the
cords are color-coded for easy match-ups with your television,
then you are practically good to go! # # # # #
