Hosting Providers and Disk Space Issues
Hard disk space used to be a tremendous deal
only a few years ago. Today with the advancement in computers
and their technology, things are certainly changing. If you’re
unfamiliar with exactly what disk space is, and why you need
it, then read on to learn a little more about it. Also, read
about a con that is routinely pulled on novices, and even some
experienced surfers to the Internet. It’s true that you learn
something new everyday, and if you want to put up a website
for the first time, you’ll need to know how to save money to
reinvest back into your site. Be a wise consumer by being fully
informed of options and prices too.
Before you begin to set up a website, it might be a great
idea if you’re new to the Internet, or at least inexperienced
with setting up a website and hosting options to get
a dictionary of web hosting terminology. In fact it’s almost a necessity
to get one because how else will you know what you’re buying
when you’re looking into web hosting for your website? Even
the best intentioned website designer still wants to be able
to sell you a package that either they hope you’ll need someday,
or might use now. There’s nothing wrong with capitalism, but
you’ve got to look after your wallet if you want your site
to survive too.
You’ll hear a lot about two hosting issues, which are bandwidth
and disk space. If you’re unsure what disk space is, it’s really
very simple. Disk space is how much hard drive disk space that
you’re allowed to use every month, or even per day, from your
hosting services servers. Depending on the type of website
that you want to put up on the Internet will determine how
much disk space you’ll use. If you’re targeting an audience
that would require lots of high -graphics, such as an adult
site, or even one like a graphics designer would produce to
sell clip art, you won’t require tons of disk space from your
service provider.
However, there are other things that require a lot of hard
disk space though. If you have designed or start using at some
point lots of flash graphics and detailed clip art, it will
require you to use more hard disk space than might be allotted
with your standard web hosting packages. Also, there are certain
scripts such as JavaScript, which can be found that are used
in chat rooms that can take up a lot of hard disk space too.
Most web hosting sites offer at more than enough to house small
e-commerce websites, and most certainly more than enough for
a family friendly personal web page.
Please be very wary of web hosting services in general when
it comes to disk space. Paid hosting services will often list
large amounts of free disk space in order for you to sign,
and then hit you with higher prices in other areas. In reality
most people don’t use more than 5 MB of disk space at first.
You can always add on more space at a later time if you need
to do so. Also, you’ll find that many free web hosting services
will offer large amounts of space too. They know that you will
buy into the concept of anything advertised as free, and it
gets most peoples attention. In truth too, disk space is not
free for either a free web hosting service or a paid one. They
want to make a profit on unused disk space, and still have
a free disk space to offer to others from their servers.
Remember, unless you’re offering files for download and have
huge amounts of scripts and other types of data bases, it’s
more than likely that you’ll never use the standard 10 or 12
MG that are offering from most web hosting companies. Adding
extra disk space in the future is a snap, and waiting while
your website grows is the best policy. Just make sure that
whatever hosting company you do use, will give you the option
to add extra space.
In the end be a wise consumer, and enjoy setting up your website
and watching it grow. Take some preparatory time to learn all
you can about web hosting and the terminology too. You’ll be
surprised how much you will learn and how much you’ll enjoy
adding more to your little space on the Internet.
