How
Do I Create a Podcast People Will Watch?
So
now that you are an iPod owner, what exactly do you plan on
doing with it? Are you going to solely listen to music on the
train? Are you going to download movies, or TV shows? These
are great ideas to start off with, but there is so much that
can be done with this handy little device. You could for example,
make podcasts. This is a wonderful broadcasting program
that can be done with your iPod and your home computer combined. With this great new iPod option, you can reach viewers and
listeners all over the globe. By setting up the broadcast on
your iPod, and then editing it on your home PC or Mac, you
have now entered the new realm of media that has swept the
planet. This media is running on just about every continent
and is becoming the most popular program available today.
If
you are interested in doing some sort of iPod podcasting,
there are many programs available right now to help you get
through the first few rough spots. Doing a good podcast is
anything but easy, and it is a very option-packed medium. Making
a quality podcast is very hard work, it usually takes production
skills, good planning, equipment, and at least a sense of editing. This
list of things also involves money, time, and a great deal
of effort. If you are still interested, here are some
things that should be kept in mind when attempting to make
a podcast. It is always a good idea to identify your pod cast
verbally, adding issue number, time and date. Having a guest
or topic is also very useful; as no one really wants to listen
to someone go on about absolutely nothing. This is a sure fire
way to not have an audience, for your podcast. This information
is known as a meta tag, it give the pod cast content, having
someone pick up the information fore hand is helpful, is someone
stumbles on the dialogs at a much later date. This will help
them stay in the loop and understand what the broadcast is
all about.
When
making a podcast, it is vital to the success of the broadcast
to keep it relatively short, anything more
than 20 minutes and you have lost your audience. Honestly,
the only
way you are going to keep them interested is if you have very
high quality material. Most times it can be difficult get great
material from the start, so best just keep it simple. For obvious
reason, you will want to have the show interesting and fun.
If the show is completely boring, again you will not hold an
audience. It is always a good idea to add an audio bumper in
between segments, this will allow for a few short breaks. This
will make the podcast chunky. One of the most important things
to remember when pod casting is to be organized, by having
a set program that has flow you ensure stable content. If you
were doing any sort of interview, it would be a good idea to
have the questions drawn out ahead of time. This will make
sure that there are no extended pauses in the broadcast, and
keep the show moving along smoothly.
You
will want to be sure that you have all your talk time laid
out before hand, and keep time of what you are talking
about. Make timetables and try not to breach them, do not talk
about the same subject too long if you have a few to talk about.
Try to fit in as much content into the podcast as possible,
without becoming incoherent of course. This will give the listener
more to think about and will capture their attention. This
will also lead to repeat listeners and a greater audience for
the future. Finally have content that is quality and informative
if you plan on having a weekly broadcast, if you are having
trouble coming up with material it may be a good idea to do
the show quarterly. People listen because they are interested,
not because they have to. Make sure they stay interested, this
will hold onto your audience. # # # # #
